Solid Wood VS. MDF

Have you ever thought about purchasing a bathroom appliance such as a vanity, but weren’t sure whether to choose solid wood or MDF for the material? Read along to make a decision that will best fit your needs.

As you may guess, solid wood is all natural and earth-made. If you are looking for something that will last forever with proper care, solid wood may be your best bet. With each cut of wood being different, it may add more character with different grain patterns. To some, this may be beautiful and ideal, while to others, it may be the opposite of what they want, making it an aesthetic preference.

A controlled climate is key if you choose to go with natural wood to prevent shrinking or cracking over time. It may also prevent pests which could require maintenance

MDF on the other hand, is a man-made product which may be discouraging to some people, but for others it can be a great option to consider when hearing that it is recycled wood which is beneficial to the environment. To make MDF, the manufacturers take the scraps of wood leftover from the production of wood boards and beams that might normally end up burned or in a landfill. If you are looking to make a project, MDF may be a better choice being that it has more of a smooth surface and can be more resistant to warping over time.

Below are some basic pros and cons to consider when deciding on what material to buy for your vanity, cabinets, or any other furniture you are looking for at the moment:
